Trends begin from somewhere. A concept believed and worked upon by someone, can make the world whirl. This post will guide you to the chosen colour of the year 2019 by a global company Pantone and an Indian company Asian Paints.

I don’t know how many of you follow colour trends, but I do know that most of us feel, it is easier to put them on fashion than on interiors.

Well, I believe the simplest ways to make a chosen colour enter your home is by changing the throw pillow cover or by bringing a new decor piece or a platter.

Anyway, it is not a bad idea to bring in new curtains or bed sheets or a table runner every year. These trends are thankfully there, to help us shake things up and bring freshness to our home decor.

Now let me lead you to, what these two globally acknowledged brands have a major role to play in 2019.

Pantone Colour Institute

The introduction of the Pantone Colour of the Year confirmed The Pantone Colour Institute as the front-runner for all things colour related, globally.

Pantone Colour Institute has come up with the idea of the ‘colour of the year’ in 2000. But it wasn’t until 2007 that the concept took a life and made its way to the global trends.

Each year, in December all the trendsetters and trend scouts eagerly wait for the colour announcement by Pantone.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2019: Living Coral

“An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”

Though some of us might relate this colour to the previous year’s most favourite colour in interiors; “peach pink”, but it is slightly more vibrant and evocative.

“Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

This colour is characterised as an authentic and immersive experience that enables connection and intimacy; in the era when digital technology and social media is increasingly embedding into daily life.

My Perspective: For me, the Living Coral is a joyful colour. It sure will pep up any space. It is a colour of hope and bounty.

These Quartz Countertops are equally striking and stunning.

Asian Paints Colour Next

Asian paints being the biggest market holder in Indian paint brands has launched its Colour Next segment in 2003. And since then every industry related to real estate has been updated with Asian Paint’s colour and trend predictions.

While I was watching the colour of the year on their website, I was blown away with their trend forecast. I could find myself in two of their collections; “Enchanted” and “F-lux”.

Asian Paints Colour of the Year 2019: Awakening

While on the global level, people are balancing the act between the real and virtual world; on a national level we are becoming more self-aware and cultivating the courage to put our voice out.

“The Asian Paints colour of 2019 is Awakening — a shade of plum, alive with the dynamism of being woke. The dignity and power of purple fused with the humility of brown, it personifies the strength to stand up when it matters. And, to dig in your heels with confidence.”

This shade is the voice of being courageous, optimistic and alive. It is that bold expression that is hard to suppress.

My Perspective: I am always attracted to shades more than tints and tones. And this shade of plum is something I have never had a look at until I saw it at Colour Next. I heart the gentle calmness beneath its loud presence. For me, it is a colour of luxury, mindfulness and serenity.

Having all that written, I am now off to shopping for a tea towel in Living Coral colour to pep up my mornings. And will also shop for a curtain in Awakening colour, cuz it’s going to save my home from some harsh summer effects.

Have you ever considered taking a look at Colour of the Year? This year, which colour would you pick for an update?
